Celebrating Mother's Day on Facebook It was finally a weekend and as usual I woke up late. I grabbed a book from side of the bed. I was totally out of touch for a long time. Reading felt unusual. With much patience, I completed a chapter and placed it back. Then as usual, grabbed the phone and opened messenger, no messages. I closed it and opened a Facebook and I was taken aback to see so many post about Mother's Day. Later I learnt that it was Mother's Day according to Hindu calendar. Initially, I just ignored everything because I had seen so many different dates for mother's day, fathers day, friendship day so on. Almost all the people on my friend list have posted a picture of their mother with a long and say beautiful message and of which some were directly copied from the google. I thought people loved their mother so much because my news feed was literally flooding with Mother's Day post. As I scrolled down the news feed,  I made an interesting discovery. ...

Small gestures, huge impact We are so ingrained in the whirl of materialistic world that, we are ignorant of small things happening around us every moment. One thing that life taught me is to value and cherish every small thing in life. We usually neglect the worth of small things and often yearn for big that you cannot achieve. You don’t have to invite your entire neighborhood for dinner or present your friend a chocolate each day to impress them. Just a simple “good morning” “have a good day” or just smile are enough to light some body’s day. It was in 2014, I was traveling to Thimphu from Dagana. I was waiting for a bus at a junction where bus coming from Dagapela passes by. There were other people who were also waiting for the same bus. Finally, the bus had arrived and I went the driver to inquire if he could accommodate me as I had not booked a ticket. He said he has one ticket left. I was happy as I did not have to go by taxi whose fare was almost the triple of what we ...

20th January Yay, finally it is 20th January, the most awaited day of the year! The most special day not only to him but also to me and the entire family. The day when our little man, though he is not little anymore, came to our lives. This is only the birth date that I remember without having face book to remind me. Some times, I don't remember my own birthday until my mother reminds me to distribute sweets to my friends, which I have never done, but I never forget my little brother's birthday. Well, don't expect me to praise you because it is your birthday. I am going to limit praises. Let me begin by saying, you were the most stubborn kid I have ever seen. You won't agree to this fact right? Yes, but I do. Throughout this journey, you have not only been an awesome brother but also a best friend to me. Back in schools when often I had struggles getting along with friends, you have always been there to bear my temperament. I miss those days when I went home w...

Knowing oneself How often do you sit alone and think about yourself? Have you ever understood yourself perfectly? I say "No". I have not understood myself. I cannot define myself. Well, I think I have always inclined towards others while defining myself. I have never distinguished my likes and dislikes. I know for sure, I am not peculiar weirdo but I am not what I have been in these years.  I never figured out what really makes me happy. At the same time, I never knew exactly what really pisses me off. When some one asked me what I liked the most? I so lamely said that I like what everybody liked. I just realized that I was so blunt. I was pretentious. I pretended to like what everybody liked. But, I was  not trying to be somebody to impress any one with these happy responses. Now, I know that, I have never enjoyed those things. I did not do what I loved to do. I realized that, often I try to fit into other's personality not withholding my own-self. Ho...
Social media generated words Do you use abbreviations, short cuts and slang while chatting? these days, advancement of technology has helped the social media growth in an alarming speed. The evolution has given birth to many words and phrases which were nonexistent before. Have you ever wondered what these abbreviations stand for? TBH, WTF, LOL, P.S, P.C, IMYSM, ASAP, GN, BFF, RIP, GTG? Well, these are few to mention but there are several such words generated in the recent times. Yes if you are new to face book or any other social app, you will definitely wonder what these words stand for? It took me so long to understand these abbreviations. Every time my friends use these short cuts, I have to either Google it if I am blessed with good internet connectivity or ask them what those stand for. When I was new to face book, I always thought that using those words was very cool as somebody told me that it saves time. However, later I realized that, what is the point of saving time...
Inspiration What is inspiration? Do we really need inspiration to do something in life? We need inspiration in different point of our lives. We need inspiration to meet life’s challenges. Inspiration gives us courage when we are at lowest point of our lives. It helps us to come out of the pool of tragedy, failure and misfortune. Furthermore, it gives us confidence to try new things in life. It also teaches us to take risk and excel in small things that we come across in life. What exactly is inspiration? Yes inspiration’ sometimes can be just a simple smile. We don’t need to spend so much energy to inspire some body. Sometimes just the presence of our family and our loved one can be inspiration. They need not do any miracle to evoke our inner selves. Ever since my childhood, I have been listening to the stories of great heroes, scientists, philosopher and all the great achievers but never in a life time I was so much inspired to do anything. During my school, Dzongkha teache...
Sympathy for homeless. I never considered myself so privileged until I came to Chittagong, Bangladesh in 2014. I was so astonished to see homeless people nearly equivalent to the population of Bhutan. We Asians call them Beggars whereby Westerners address them as homeless people, which sound less offensive. Nobody aspires to be homeless/beggars; it is just that a bad fortune pushes them to be the one. My heart sinks every time I see poor children running around the street begging for food who otherwise should still be in cradle. I feel completely helpless seeing them in the whirl of misery.  I could do nothing other them giving them few Takas when they come running to me. Every time I see them dozen of questions arise in my mind, “Why are these children put into such trial? What did they do in their lives because of which they have to undergo these? Is it because their parents didn’t work hard enough to raise them? Why did they bring these young ones to the world if they ca...
Ama Dear ama, more I stay away from you, more I have realized that how i miss you gentle love. There isn’t a time I don’t think about you. You are there in my every beat of my heart. Your thought strikes me every now and then. Every night, I take a day off with your thoughts. I some times feel that, being away from you is just another punishment for me. Your thought warms my heart. I remember how you used to respond when ever we tried to correct your mis-pronounced English word. How beautifully you used to say, "We don't know that is why we have educated you" and smile. I miss being around you. Being thousands miles away from you is really difficult. People say, when you live away from your family, life teaches you to be more independe...
Grateful heart. We should always be grateful to what we have today. Even if we are not up some bodies or our own expectations, we still need to be grateful. We should be grateful to the almighty for being yard stick and guiding us every time. Our family and friends are also almighty in disguised form. Every day I wake up and realize that how lucky am I to be what I am today and having been surrounded by beautiful souls.   I did not have the most luxurious childhood like other children did but I had the happiest childhood ever.   I didn’t get to play with the most beautiful toys but my parents never allowed me to feel bored and lonely. I did not get to wear the beautiful fairy dresses but my parents always provided me with enough clothes to keep myself warm. I neither grew up watching Tom and Jerry nor playing video games but I grew up listening to stories of lord Krishna spreading the message of love and peace. My parents did not have an opportunity to be educated li...

First day of April.                                                         Every year, first of April is observed as fool’s day. Unlike other days, people take an extra enthusiasm to observe this day. Especially kids in the schools do all kinds of pranks to make fun. This day begins and ends with lies and cheats. Everyone is alert but the pranksters find an alternative to victimize their friends.  When I was in school, this was the most awaited day to all of us.  On this day, we used to proceed towards school with full plans and preparations. On that day, even the serious matters were misunderstood as a prank and many of our friends had to pay for it. Lies went to the utmost level due to which we co...
